Many businesses think of hiring interns to help get small tasks off employees’ plates or run small office errands that people may not have time for. While that is nice, Night Dispatch wanted to impact the next generation in a more positive way: by giving them the tools they need for future success in whatever path they choose.
Leah May was a recent intern for Night Dispatch, and she came to us from a program in her high school that helped her get an internship through teaching her how to interview and even helping set up the interviews. We were happy to be a part of this program to help teach this generation how to enter into the professional world, with the added benefit of having someone join our team for a little while. Leah and her peers are our future, after all!
When Leah came to us, her goals were to learn about the inner workings of a business, so we tried to give her as many opportunities as we could and get her connected to the right people to help show her the way. She was able to work on many of the different softwares that Night Dispatch works with to help create training courses, assisted with organizing schedules for other contractors, and listened in on client calls and other business related meetings to get a better understanding for how things at Night Dispatch work.
Leah was able to see first hand what Christina Walters manages as the owner of the business and all the work that goes into running Night Dispatch successfully. She also picked up some very useful organizational and time management skills from Christina as she worked directly with Leah to teach her how to complete different tasks and manage different projects. Leah stated that aside from all she was able to learn during her time at Night Dispatch, the welcoming office environment was her favorite part of her internship, and aided in her ability to learn and work effectively.
Night Dispatch is grateful to have been able to impact Leah’s learning experience, and wish her the most success in the future. She plans to complete her Associates of Arts in the next couple years, and will take the knowledge she gained during this internship with her.
